Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mission

Mission entered their tilt with Martin on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 17-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-0 back in February.

Judith Arroyo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Maddie Garcia and Breanna Longoria did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Longoria went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Garcia has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Pamela Avalos, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Mission always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .913. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mission pushed their record up to 8-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Martin, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-22.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mission is set to challenge their familiar foe Mission Veterans Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Martin will square off against rival Cigarroa at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
