Softball Recap: Mcdowell Has No Trouble Against Erie

While McDowell put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Erie. The Trojans put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Gabriella Deluca made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexandra Smith, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mya Kaliszewski, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

McDowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Erie only posted a batting average of .087.

The win made it two in a row for McDowell and bumps their season record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Erie, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. McDowell is set to face off against their familiar foe Meadville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Erie will challenge rival Warren at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
