Basketball Game Preview: Polk County Wolverines vs. Brevard Blue Devils

The Polk County Wolverines will square off against the Brevard Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Polk County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Brevard likes a good challenge.

Polk County will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating East Rutherford, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. Polk County enjoyed a cozy 62-43 win over East Rutherford on Friday. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Cavaliers are ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Polk County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kiera Littlejohn led the charge by going 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Littlejohn a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Brevard unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a 60-31 loss at the hands of Hendersonville.

Polk County's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Brevard, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Everything came up roses for Polk County against Brevard in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 72-32 win. Will Polk County repeat their success, or does Brevard have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
