Basketball Recap: Latney Laysone's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Montgomery over Lakeview

Montgomery lost against Lakeview back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Montgomery Tigers fell 62-51 to the Lakeview Gators. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Gators are ranked 48th).

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Latney Laysone, who went 9 for 22 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. The matchup was Laysone's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacorian Shepherd, who almost dropped a double-double on ten boards and nine assists.

Even though they lost, Montgomery smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Montgomery's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Lakeview, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 27-5.

Montgomery has already played their next contest, a 78-41 win against LaSalle on the 28th. Lakeview has also already played their next match (against St. Mary), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
