Freeman is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Newport is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Scotties will welcome the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Freeman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.7 runs per game this season.
Freeman fell victim to Liberty and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers.
Freeman saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Silva, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Newport made easy work of Chewelah on Friday and carried off a 23-12 victory. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Lili Hall made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Bella Boyd, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Boyd has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cheyanne Frisk, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive matches.
Newport's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Freeman, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 18-2.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Freeman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Newport struggles in that department as they've averaged .503. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Freeman's way against Newport in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Freeman made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Scotties repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
