Baseball Game Preview: Wyomissing Spartans vs. Hamburg Hawks

The Wyomissing Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Hamburg Hawks at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wyomissing was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Pottsville 7-6. While the Spartans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Teddy White made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. White was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniel Noey, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Cole Sensenig also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

While Hamburg didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Tulpehocken on Monday.

Dylan Gough spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks.

Hamburg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wyomissing, their record now sits at 5-2.

Wyomissing couldn't quite get it done against Hamburg when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
