Recap: Butler Bulldogs vs. Sun Valley Spartans
The Butler Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Sun Valley Spartans with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Butler enjoyed a cozy 71-53 victory over Sun Valley on Tuesday. Given Butler's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Sun Valley is ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Butler to victory were DeQuadre Currence and Tyler Showalter. Currence scored 15 points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Showalter scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Currence posted eight or more assists. Terrance Badio was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Butler is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Sun Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
Butler on the road again on Friday and play against Independence at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Independence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday. As for Sun Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marvin Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
