Basketball Game Preview: South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls vs. North Rowan Cavaliers

South Stanly hasn't had much luck against North Rowan recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls will be playing at home against the North Rowan Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

South Stanly is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 32nd straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They were beaten by Union Academy 67-18. The Rowdy Rebel Bulls were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-9.

Briley Page was South Stanly's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Mya McCray held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Kanija Colson took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, North Rowan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 49-37 to Salisbury.

South Stanly will have to contain Dasia Elder as she made an impact in North Rowan's last game. She posted 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 43.2% of North Rowan's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Allanah McAuthur, who had ten points and six boards.

South Stanly's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for North Rowan, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Stanly has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Rowan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

South Stanly was taken down by North Rowan 58-2 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point South Stanly was down 41-0.
