Baseball Game Preview: Denison Yellow Jackets vs. McKinney North Bulldogs

The Denison Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to take on the McKinney North Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. McKinney North took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Denison, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Denison turned things around against Aubrey on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Chaparrals. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yellow Jackets have posted since March 6th.

The team relied heavily on Jayden McClain, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Denison's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-16 when he doesn't). Mateo Almazan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, McKinney North didn't have enough. They fell just short of Anna by a score of 4-2 on Friday.

McKinney North saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Shelton, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

McKinney North has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. Denison's victory bumped their record up to 5-16.

Denison suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to McKinney North in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Denison avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
