Even though the Fort Bend Travis Tigers scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, the Fort Bend Elkins Knights still came out on top. Fort Bend Elkins managed a 59-55 victory over Fort Bend Travis. The win was all the more spectacular given Fort Bend Elkins' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Fort Bend Travis is ranked 33rd).
Fort Bend Elkins' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Nyakundi, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Charley Reado, who scored 14 points.
Fort Bend Elkins has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. As for Fort Bend Travis, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-5.
Fort Bend Elkins will square off against Ridge Point at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridge Point will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Fort Bend Travis' road trip will continue as they head out to face Fort Bend Clements at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in Fort Bend Clements' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
