Basketball Game Preview: Avoyelles Mustangs vs. Northwood Gators

The Avoyelles Mustangs will square off against the Northwood Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Avoyelles is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Abbeville just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 61-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Northwood sidestepped Pitkin for a 44-42 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Gators' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Tigers are ranked 104th).

Avoyelles' defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Northwood, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Avoyelles didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Northwood in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 40-35 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Northwood's Jahari Mccoy, who posted 23 points.
