Softball Recap: West Muskingum Takes Down Martins Ferry in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, West Muskingum rose to the challenge on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Martins Ferry Purple Riders. The result was nothing new for the Tornadoes, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Gabbi Hammer was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Daylee Foster was another key player, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: West Muskingum lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matchups.

West Muskingum has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Martins Ferry, their loss dropped their record down to 23-5.

Coming up, West Muskingum will square off against Tuscarawas Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Tornadoes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Martins Ferry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
