Baseball Recap: Fairdale Comes Up Short

Fairdale extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-15. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Christian Educational Consortium Cougars. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by just one run.

Trey Kelly made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Jai Smith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Christian Educational Consortium, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On Christian Educational Consortium's side, Caleb Collins made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Collins was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Terrell Heick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Wattenberger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Fairdale will take on LKY at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Christian Educational Consortium, they will square off against DeSales at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
