Basketball Game Preview: Hay Springs Hawks vs. Mullen Broncos

Hay Springs hasn't had much luck against Mullen recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Hay Springs Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mullen Broncos. Hay Springs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Hay Springs took on Garden County on Friday. Hay Springs fell just short of Garden County by a score of 57-55. While the Hawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 22-9 in the first quarter.

Hay Springs might have lost, but man, Dylan Young was a machine: he went 10-for-15 en route to 23 points and five rebounds. The match was Young's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Heidyn Johnson, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 12 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Hay Springs was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mullen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They lost 49-26 to Sandhills Valley.

Mullen's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Hay Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.

Hay Springs and Mullen were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but Hay Springs came up empty-handed after a 39-38 defeat. Can Hay Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
