Baseball Recap: Carrollton Takes a Loss

Carrollton had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it five. They fell 7-2 to the Ithaca Yellowjackets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavaliers of the 19-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Andrew Spiece was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sego Sanada, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Ithaca, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

On Ithaca's side, Brady Paradise made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Paradise has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor McMurphy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lucas Little was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Carrollton will welcome Hemlock at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ithaca, they will head out to face off against Carson City-Crystal at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
