Softball Game Preview: Baldwin Bears vs. Merion Mercy Academy Golden Bears

The Baldwin Bears will square off against the Merion Mercy Academy Golden Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

While Baldwin's win against Hill School wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-15 victory over the Rams last Wednesday. The Bears' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Addison Milner was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and 12 unearned) runs off 13 hits. Milner was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charly Landow, who went 4-for-5 with eight RBI, two runs, and two doubles. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Bella Murray was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.

Baldwin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Merion Mercy Academy entered their tilt with Gwynedd Mercy Academy on Wednesday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They came out on top against the Monarchs by a score of 12-7. 12 seems to be a good number for the Golden Bears as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Merion Mercy Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Baldwin, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-3.
