Softball Recap: Dominguez Comes Up Short

Dominguez extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-8. They lost 13-0 to the Paramount Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 on April 14th.

As for Paramount, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Paramount's part, Laritza Esparza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Esparza has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases.

In other pitching news, CLARISSA NORIEGA looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.

Back at the plate, Sophia Ledezma was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zariah MORENO, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dominguez will challenge Lynwood at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paramount, they will square off against Norwalk at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
