Softball Recap: South Vermillion Wildcats vs. Covington Trojans

South Vermillion put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Covington Trojans a 12-0 shutout. The victory was nothing new for South Vermillion as they're now sitting on five straight.

Addyson Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Smith has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Smith was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Rosie Travioli was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ava Swinford, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

South Vermillion's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9. As for Covington, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Vermillion will take on Clay City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Covington, their homestand will continue as they prepare to take on North Vermillion at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Covington is facing North Vermillion at the right time seeing as North Vermillion is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
