Softball Recap: Middletown Comes Up Short

Middletown fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Upper Lake on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 8-7. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 5-4 to the Cougars when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Tallulah Madrid spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Sarah Fetter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Thompson, who went 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

Middletown has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Upper Lake, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Middletown will host Clear Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Upper Lake, they will welcome St. Helena at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
