Basketball Recap: Pahrump Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Ryleigh Denton and Riley Saldana

Pahrump Valley came up into this matchup off a tough 40-point loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Boulder City Eagles by a score of 34-32 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Trojans have suffered against the Eagles since January 11, 2019.

Riley Saldana and Ryleigh Denton certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Saldana dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards, while Denton posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Saldana is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last ten games she's played.

Even though they lost, Pahrump Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boulder City only racked up four assists.

Boulder City was led to victory by Makenzie Martorano and Sophia Muelrath. Martorano had four points along with nine boards and seven steals, while Muelrath put up 12 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Martorano a new career-high in steals.

Pahrump Valley is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8. As for Boulder City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Pahrump Valley is taking a road trip to challenge Boulder City at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Boulder City, they will welcome Chaparral at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Boulder City is facing Chaparral at the right time seeing as Chaparral is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
