Baseball Recap: Carman-Ainsworth Comes Up Short

Carman-Ainsworth extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They fell 11-6 to the Mt. Pleasant Oilers. The Cavaliers were not able to make up for their loss to the Oilers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Carman-Ainsworth saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Fletcher, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another was James Thorpe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

As for Mt. Pleasant, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-8 record. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

On Mt. Pleasant's side, Brock Binder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Binder was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Mt. Pleasant's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Vance, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Brandon Florian was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Coming up, Carman-Ainsworth will head out to square off against Corunna at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Pleasant, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Big Rapids at 4:00 p.m.
