Madisonville has gone a perfect 3-0 against La Grange recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. La Grange took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Madisonville, who comes in off a win.
Madisonville took a loss when they played away from home back in September, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They walked away with a 21-14 win over Center.
The critical scores for Madisonville came from Tristan Whaley, Kyus Ford, and Kedirck Moffett.
Madisonville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Moffett led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, La Grange was beaten by Navasota 65-27 last Friday. While losing is never fun, the Leopards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Rattlers are ranked 170th).
Madisonville will have to contain Eli Gillum as he made an impact in La Grange's last game. He rushed for 141 yards and two scores while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 134 yards and a pair of TDs. With that strong performance, Gillum is now averaging an impressive 103.4 rushing yards per game. Dillan Johnson was Gillum's top target, picking up 39 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 85 yards.
La Grange's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Madisonville, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Madisonville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 267.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like La Grange struggles in that department as they've been averaging 238.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
