Football Recap: Piketon Redstreaks vs. Zane Trace Pioneers
Piketon's last matchup with Zane Trace could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Redstreaks had to suffer through a 42-6 loss at the hands of the Pioneers. The Redstreaks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-6.
Luke Gullion threw for 56 yards on seven of 15 attempts. Gavin Blanton was his top target, picking up 49 receiving yards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Zane Trace to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gunnar McCullough, who threw for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground. The dominant performance also gave McCullough a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Grady Stewart also helped with two scores in total.
This is the second loss in a row for Piketon and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Zane Trace, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piketon will head out to challenge Unioto at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Shermans' defense has only allowed 5.2 points per game this season, so the Redstreaks' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Zane Trace, they will venture away from home to take on Huntington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
