Soccer Game Preview: Gray Collegiate Academy vs. Sumter

The Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles will face off against the Sumter Gamecocks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gray Collegiate Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Sumter will be coming in after a defeat.

Sumter will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Gray Collegiate Academy extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The War Eagles put the hurt on Brookland-Cayce with a sharp 8-1 win. Gray Collegiate Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, Sumter fell victim to West Florence and their airtight defense on Monday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. While losing is never fun, Sumter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 144th, while West Florence are ranked 17th).

Gray Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those seven matches. As for Sumter, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-13.

Gray Collegiate Academy took their victory against Sumter in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the War Eagles repeat their success, or do the Gamecocks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
