Basketball Recap: West Iredell Comes Up Short

West Iredell suffered their biggest defeat since January 17th on Monday. They came up short against the Statesville Greyhounds, falling 85-65. The Warriors have struggled against the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why West Iredell lost, don't look at Jordan Patterson. Despite the final result, he went 14-for-21 en route to 31 points and five boards. The game was Patterson's 25th in a row with at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was David Bunton, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Statesville found their leader in freshman Paul Cauthen, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cauthen has scored all season. Ameiyon Jehahj Sherrill was another key player, as he made all 5 shots he took for 15 points and seven rebounds.

West Iredell now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Statesville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

West Iredell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Statesville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-49 loss against North Lincoln on the 18th.
