Basketball Recap: Kent County Trojans vs. Perryville Panthers
Kent County and Perryville squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Kent County had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Perryville Panthers by a score of 56-53. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Panthers are ranked 87th).
Kent County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayla Sisco, who posted 18 points and six rebounds. That was a full 34% of Kent County's points, marking the sixth time in a row Sisco has had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Cannon, who put up 12 points and seven boards.
Even though they lost, Kent County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.
Perryville found their leader in sophomore Carsyn Hulbert, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zoey Graves, who earned ten points along with five boards and three steals.
Kent County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Perryville, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-3.
Kent County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Perryville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-34 loss against Smithsburg on the 7th.
