Baseball Recap: Moffat County Takes a Loss

Moffat County had lost seven straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-15 to make it eight. They came up short against the Aspen Skiers, falling 14-0. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their loss to the Skiers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Aspen, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-9. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Aspen's part, William Marolt was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Marolt has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Aspen: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Aspen got a massive performance out of Tharyn Mulberry, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave Mulberry a new career-high. Dylan Mika was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Aspen beat Moffat County by a score of 23-6 later that day.
