Softball Recap: Preston Starts off Right with Win over Canyon Ridge

Preston had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 24-4 margin over the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Maysa Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Preston got a massive performance out of Averie Madsen, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Madsen a new career-high. Brielle Biggs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Preston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Ridge only posted an OBP of .350.

Preston will have a chance to go back-to-back against Canyon Ridge: the pair will be back at it again later today.
