Baseball Game Preview: South Pittsburg Pirates vs. Silverdale Academy Seahawks

South Pittsburg hasn't had much luck against Silverdale Academy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Pirates will take on the Seahawks at 3:30 p.m. South Pittsburg will be strutting in after a win while Silverdale Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

South Pittsburg not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th. Everything went their way against Van Buren County as they made off with a 9-1 victory. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Alex Phillips spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South Pittsburg is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jace Stone was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaden Baker, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Silverdale Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Gordon Lee by a score of 4-3.

Jonah Winton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

South Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Silverdale Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.

South Pittsburg came up short against Silverdale Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
