Softball Game Preview: Butler Aviators vs. Piqua Indians

For the second straight game, Butler will face off against Piqua. The Aviators will face off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Butler has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Butler managed to slip by Piqua the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Aviators lost 15-1 to the Indians on Friday. The Aviators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Piqua's part, Taylor Tevis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Tevis has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

In other batting news, Piqua let Taylan Swartz and Athena Duff run wild. Swartz went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Duff went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Duff has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Rachel Price, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Piqua was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Butler only posted a batting average of .158.

Butler's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Piqua, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-10.
