Softball Recap: Heritage Victorious

Heritage never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Bearden on Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Bulldogs. The win continues a trend for the Mountaineers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Elishia Byrd made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Portlyn Bennett was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Carly Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Heritage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Heritage's record now sits at 20-8. As for Bearden, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heritage will take on Christian Academy of Knoxville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bearden, they will be playing at home against Jefferson County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
