Baseball Recap: High Point Central Comes Up Short

High Point Central had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it six. They fell 10-5 to the Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles. The Bison were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Golden Eagles earlier this season, when they won 18-7.

Ben L. Smith's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

For Ben L. Smith's part, Carlos Gonzalez-Herrera was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. Gonzalez-Herrera has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rodney Adams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Laderean Ravenell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, High Point Central will head out to challenge Ledford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ben L. Smith, they will host Walkertown at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
