Basketball Recap: Spencer's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

On Saturday, the Spencer Greenwave were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 68-62 to the Lee County Trojans. The Greenwave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Spencer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexandria Berk, who posted 17 points along with eight steals and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Brownlee, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Spencer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 39 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Spencer's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-5. As for Lee County, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Spencer and Valor Christian will round out the year against one another at at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Valor Christian will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Spencer surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lee County, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Panther Creek at 6:45 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Panther Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season.
