Baseball Recap: Hermon Has No Trouble Against Ellsworth

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hermon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Ellsworth Eagles with a sharp 8-2 win. The Hawks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26th (when they won 10-0).

Max Hopkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Tommy Meserve was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brayden Ladd, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Hermon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Ellsworth, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hermon will face off against Brewer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellsworth, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Presque Isle at 2:30 p.m.
