Softball Recap: Hackett Catholic Prep's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Hackett Catholic Prep can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Allegan Tigers a 10-0 shutout. The Fighting Irish not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 18-3).

Ellie Kling was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Doerr, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Meredith Chenier, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one run.

Hackett Catholic Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Hackett Catholic Prep's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Allegan, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Looking ahead, Hackett Catholic Prep will host Howardsville Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Allegan will be paying especially close attention to the Fighting Irish's game: after the Fighting Irish face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Allegan again at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
