Find out how the nation's elite teams stack heading into the 2017-18 season.

There are many great high school players in the country, and for our preseason All-Americans, the key phrase is "high school." Our picks reflect high school performance, not college potential, though obviously there's a strong correlation between the two.

Another factor is team success — if indeed a player is one of the best 15 in the nation, she should be able to lead her team to a good record and a deep run in the postseason state playoffs.

First team
Shakira Austin, Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.)
6-5 | Senior | Post | Maryland

The highly regarded transfer will slide right into a talented Riverdale Baptist roster. Her athleticism and strong face-up game are tough to handle at this level.

Charli Collier, Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, Texas)
6-4 | Senior | Post | Texas

A skilled and versatile inside presence, Collier is a force — and the fact that she can knock down an elbow jumper makes her all but impossible to guard.

Aquira DeCosta, St. Mary's (Stockton, Calif.)
6-2 | Senior | Forward | Baylor

DeCosta's athleticism — she explodes to the rim, and gets off the ground in the blink of an eye — is unmatched for her size. And she's left-handed, which never hurts.



Ashley Owusu, Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.)
5-10 | Junior | Guard | verbal Maryland

A strong point guard who leads the way for a perennial national power, Owusu will punish smaller players by going to the rim and shoot over those who back off.

Christyn Williams, Central Arkansas Christian (North Little Rock, Ark.)
5-11 | Senior | Guard | UConn

The latest superstar on her way to UConn, Williams is a 5-11 scoring machine who's comfortable on or off the ball.

Second team

Kierstan Bell, McKinley (Canton, Ohio)
6-1 | Junior | Wing | Uncommitted



It's almost unfair to limit Bell to one position — she can pretty much play anywhere and do damage. And as just a sophomore, she was the Ohio Player of the Year.

Aliyah Boston, Worcester Academy (Mass.)
6-4 | Junior | Post | Uncommitted

A powerful player in the paint, Boston is basically unstoppable around the basket, but Massachusetts teams don't travel much, so she won't be that visible during the high school season.

Jazmine Massengill, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.)
6-1 | Senior | Point Guard | Tennessee

A tall, skilled and athletic point guard, Massengill's size is tough to match up with — and she'll show off that package for one of the top teams in the country.

Diamond Miller, Franklin (Somerset, N.J.)
6-1 | Junior | Shooting Guard | Uncommitted



Miller led Franklin to a state title last year with her deadly combination of attacking the rim and knocking down jumpers. Expect more of the same this year.

Seygan Robins, Mercer County (Harrodsburg, Ky.)
5-9 | Senior | Guard | Louisville

Robins is another lefty guard, and she's especially dangerous in transition. Of course, she can shoot it as well, and because of Mercer County's tough schedule, she'll get to prove just how good she is.

Third team

Brea Beal, Rock Island (Ill.)
6-0 | Junior | Forward | Uncommitted

Don't be fooled by that apparent lack of size — Beal will punish teams in the paint with her physicality. She also has a mid-range game if given too much room.



Caitlin Clark, Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines, Iowa)
5-11 | Sophomore | Guard | Uncommitted

The only member of the Class of 2020 on the list, Dowling is a do-everything guard who also makes her teammates better.

Zarielle Green, Duncanville (Texas)
6-0 | Senior | Guard | Tennessee

Green is a versatile, all-around player who has led Duncanville to two straight Texas large school titles — and don't bet against Green and company adding number three.

Haley Jones, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.)
6-0 | Junior | Guard | Uncommitted

Jones really is one of those players can play all five positions at both ends of the floor, and with four Division I seniors having graduated from Archbishop Mitty, look for Jones to show off all of her many skills this season.



Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Winder-Barrow (Winder, Ga.)
6-4 | Senior | Post | UConn

There's no doubt about Nelson-Ododa's game — she's an extremely skilled and athletic inside player — but she's coming off a knee injury and may not be at full strength until mid-season.
