Basketball Game Preview: McKinley Tech Trainers vs. Woodson Warriors

The McKinley Tech Trainers will challenge the Woodson Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in McKinley Tech's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.

McKinley Tech is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Banneker, who was ranked 17th at the time (McKinley Tech was ranked eighth). McKinley Tech enjoyed a cozy 84-67 victory over Banneker on Wednesday. The Trainers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

It was another big night for DaMontae Neclos, who posted 36 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Those 36 points gave him a new career-high. Marcus Dunbar was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Woodson was not able to break out of their rough patch last Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by Eastern and fell 70-40.

McKinley Tech is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points per game. As for Woodson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

McKinley Tech was able to grind out a solid win over Woodson in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 55-44. Will McKinley Tech repeat their success, or does Woodson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
