Basketball Recap: Eastern Mennonite Comes Up Short

Eastern Mennonite played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Roanoke Catholic Celtics, falling 87-37. While losing is never fun, the Flames can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Celtics are ranked 85th).

Leading Roanoke Catholic to victory were Demarcus Brown and Jayden Johnson. Brown posted 20 points, while Johnson put up 19 points. Johnson's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Kyce Lemon was another key player, putting up 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Eastern Mennonite and nudges their season record down to 2-11. As for Roanoke Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern Mennonite has already played their next game (against North Cross), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Roanoke Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Hargrave Military Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Roanoke Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Hargrave Military Academy likes a good challenge.
