Football Game Preview: Wheeler Bearcats vs. Calumet New Tech Warriors

Two dominant backs in Levi Murray and Bryce Brandon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Wheeler Bearcats will be playing at home against the Calumet New Tech Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Wheeler's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Wheeler challenged Gary West Side on Friday. The Bearcats enjoyed a cozy 42-26 win over the Cougars. The victory continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.

Wheeler didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cash Micciche and David Diaz. Diaz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calumet New Tech). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 59-7 win over Whiting. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 22 points or more this season.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Brandon and Demetrio Lopez. Brandon had a solid game and rushed for 122 yards on only 12 carries. Meanwhile, Lopez was balling out in the loss, rushing for 119 yards and one score on only 15 carries.

Calumet New Tech's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Wheeler, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Wheeler has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 229.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Calumet New Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 233.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Wheeler against Calumet New Tech in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 43-8 victory. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
