Softball Recap: Avenal Has No Trouble Against Tranquillity

Avenal got themselves on the board against Tranquillity on Friday, but Tranquillity never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Buccaneers have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Morales made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Natalia Ruiz and Malia Parez did most of the damage at the plate: Ruiz went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI, while Parez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, Ruiz is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Natalia Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Avenal hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

Avenal pushed their record up to 15-4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Tranquillity, they are on a 31-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.
