Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Comes Up Short

St. John Paul II was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 59-52 to the Munroe Bobcats. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, St. John Paul II still got an impressive performance from Mario Forbes, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 boards. Forbes is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Thompson, who posted eight points and nine boards.

Munroe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zelden Chukes, who went 5 for 9 en route to 13 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zy Reese, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

St. John Paul II's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Munroe, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

St. John Paul II wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-46 defeat against Crossroad Academy on the 15th. As for Munroe, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Munroe Bobcats challenge the Gadsden County Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
