Baseball Game Preview: Appomattox County Raiders vs. Chatham Cavaliers

The Appomattox County Raiders will head out to take on the Chatham Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Appomattox County will be strutting in after a victory while Chatham will be coming in after a defeat.

Appomattox County took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Nelson County by a score of 5-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Isaac Records looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Evan Carwile, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Wilkerson, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Chatham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost 14-1 to William Campbell.

Appomattox County pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chatham, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Appomattox County came up short against Chatham when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
