Softball Recap: Port St. Joe Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. Port St. Joe put the hurt on Wewahitchka with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tiger Sharks, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Elli Newman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Addy Silcox was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Port St. Joe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Port St. Joe's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wewahitchka, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port St. Joe will host Franklin County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wewahitchka, they will welcome Cottondale at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Wewahitchka will need to watch out since Cottondale has now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
