Softball Game Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. St. Stephens Indians

Maiden is 7-2 against St. Stephens since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will head out to take on the Indians at 6:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Maiden made up a huge gap compared to their last game against North Lincoln, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blue Devils have suffered since April 1, 2025.

Raegan Rembert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Maiden saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Sigmon, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Stephens didn't have quite enough to beat Watauga on Friday and fell 3-2.

St. Stephens also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Addison Smith gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

Maiden's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-7. As for St. Stephens, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Maiden was able to grind out a solid win over St. Stephens in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
