7A District 7 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Steinbrenner, who took down 219th ranked Steinbrenner, 25-19. Nate Godwin in the win.
Freedom was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 7A District 7. Earlier in the week, the Patriots defeated the Warriors 25-19.
Steinbrenner's dynamic duo of Curtis Fitch and Kendall Pearcey proved tough for Freedom to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fitch threw for 90 yards and Pearcey had 57 yards receiving. Jake Carroll helped Steinbrenner's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Richard Benjamin was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 254 yards as Tampa Bay Tech lost to Todd Donohoe's team. Teammate Jamaruz Thompkins added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Alex McGough of Gaither is the league leader in passing yards this season with 470. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, the Titans' Benjamin has rushed for 357 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jon Marc Carrier. The Steinbrenner star has 10 catches for 201 yards.
The Patriots moved up to 271 from 396 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 7A District 7. Freedom climbed the ranks as a result of a 25-19 win over the Warriors.
