Basketball Game Preview: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Ragsdale Tigers

The Western Guilford Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Ragsdale Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Guilford is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

It was a classic East v. West duel when Western Guilford took on Southeast Guilford on Wednesday. The matchup between Western Guilford and Southeast Guilford didn't end well, with Western Guilford falling 61-43. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by exactly 18 points.

Western Guilford might have lost, but man, Leila Henderson was a machine: she almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Henderson has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Uche Okeke, who posted two points along with eight boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, Ragsdale hadn't done well against Northwest Guilford recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Ragsdale snuck past Northwest Guilford with a 35-30 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ragsdale found their leader in sophomore Brooke Parker, who put up 16 points. Parker's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliya Boddie, who scored nine points.

Western Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Ragsdale, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Western Guilford took their victory against Ragsdale in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 62-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Parker, who had 28 points and three steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Western Guilford still be able to contain Parker? There's only one way to find out.
