Basketball Recap: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. Greene Central Rams

The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They breezed by Greene Central on the road to the tune of 62-35. Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Rams are ranked 374th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

SouthWest Edgecombe was led to victory by Aaliyah Whitehead and Kd Collins. Whitehead scored 16 points along with eight steals and six rebounds, while Collins scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. It was the first time this season that Collins pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Deniya Mayo, who scored seven points along with two steals.

SouthWest Edgecombe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Greene Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

SouthWest Edgecombe will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Averaging 63.89 points so far this season, North Pitt's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Cougars better be ready for a challenge. As for Greene Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. West Craven is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
