Basketball Recap: Lavell Tinsley Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Evansville Mater Dei

It was a proper cat-fight when Evansville Reitz duked it out withEvansville Mater Dei on Friday. The Evansville Reitz Panthers managed a 67-61 win over the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 44-41 victory the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Evansville Reitz's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lavell Tinsley, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylan Mitchell, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists.

Evansville Reitz smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Evansville Reitz's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Evansville Mater Dei, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
