Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Cahokia Comanches
After three games on the road, Mt. Vernon is heading back home. They will take on the Cahokia Comanches at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cahokia took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mt. Vernon, who comes in off a win.
Mt. Vernon put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They breezed by Carbondale on the road to the tune of 74-37. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-15.
Mt. Vernon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melaina Zedalis, who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiara Johnson, who scored 20 points.
Meanwhile, Cahokia's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Centralia, falling 67-33. Cahokia has struggled against Centralia recently, as their contest last Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Cahokia, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Mt. Vernon against Cahokia in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 98-35 victory. With Mt. Vernon ahead 60-20 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
