Baseball Recap: Sterling Takes Down La Porte in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sterling walked away with it. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the La Porte Bulldogs 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rangers have posted since April 2, 2024.

David Benavides spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sterling is 6-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-12 otherwise.

At the plate, Sterling saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Butler, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Sterling moved to 14-15 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for La Porte, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bulldogs beat Sterling by a score of 8-4 later that day.
